WELCOME > > Silk mounted on framed canvas; 600x600

WELCOME !

Following is a selection of silk quilts

Quilt textiles are an artists impression of dream quilts; the centrepieces are original silk paintings, bordered by the artist’s own shibori dyed silk, and textured with hand and machine stitching, The backing is pure cotton, and the filling non-allergenic polyester wadding. The central works are Mandalas expressing the precious environment and the life giving Sun and radiant moon and stars, that enliven heavens where fish swim and birds fly in the airy element.

Following is a selection of Illuminations

Illuminations are inspired by the concept of the Medieval Illuminated texts, with the canvas developed as a page. The Illuminations combine poetry and paint, and are ornamented with polymer glazes, beads, and gemstones. Red desert, Blue desert works continue the recurring theme of the impact of development on the landscape, and to the concept that roads not only join, but also divide.

LIGHT OF FIRE > > Silk, mounted on calico backing with bamboo hanger; 1250x1150

IN THAT PURE LIGHT OF FIRE

In that pure light of fire
No shadows can prevail ~
Fire purifies all ~
Air clears away ~
Water washes absolution !
And Earth engulphs and embraces all.
The gift of fire
That in its path
Reduces all to ash and dust
That sheds light and brings warmth.
Lighten up and bask in the blessed light of fire
And welcome the flame that burns away.

JARRAH FOREST > > Silk mounted on framed canvas; 1000x1000

A FOREST IS MORE THAN ONE TREE

Jarrah and Marri tangle in an embrace for life.
Forest is more precious than wood.
In the secret olden Earth is life.
The tree drinks
And breathes fresh air to share.
Gives shelter and listens to the birds calling ~
Wardung ~ Tjiti-tjiti ~ Koolbardi ~
Remembering names.
Tread Gently.

A forest is more than one tree ~
A life is more than one day.
What grows slowly and in secret shadows is precious.
Tread gently on Earth
For she is life and love always.
In the still forest birds are calling out their names;
Remember me – I am Wardung. I am Tjiti-tjiti
And Marri and Jarrah whisper yes in the stillness.

ELEMENTS AND VISIONS:
2008

About the artist

The theme for 2008, Iluminations, has been developed through Annie’s visual language of expressionist and abstract symbols.

Annie’s work combines words and images. The silk works exploit the fabric’s magical reflective, luminous qualities. Created using permanent silk dyes applied with Chinese brushes, these paintings are steam fixed, durable, washable, and wearable. Long works are in the narrative form, exploring change, and have a directional perspective related to time. The Square works are Mandalas for contemplation and meditation, with labyrinthine and kaleidoscopic perspectives to explore dimensions of reality.

Visions, inspired by themes of Nova Magazine, combine luminous and symbolic pictures with inspiring verse.

The Divas express the elemental fertility of the vast and trackless ocean as the mother of all life on earth.

Mandalas express the countless fish that face extinction, exploited by human need and greed. The light and life giving Sun and radiant moon and stars, enliven heavens where fish swim and birds fly in the airy element.

Dream beaches are tranquil meditations on finding self at the edge of the limitless ocean.

Outback roads relate to the impact of development on the landscape. The paths lead to horizons of life’s journey.

Annie is a regular contributor to “Nova” and these works were inspired by the magazine’s monthly theme. Her paintings on board and canvas in acrylics and oils display the range of her skills to reveal reality translated by her personal vision.

By focusing on the elements of creation she reveals a vision of power and beauty, her art is an extension of her philosophies and actions.

Please enjoy this offering of words & works.
